Cambodia Casinos

[ English | Deutsch | Español | Français | Italiano ]

There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is true of most borders.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, features 150 slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that features many comforts on top of the gambling hall, which provides ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
