Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is against the law. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect destination, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are apparently required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that contains numerous luxuries accompanying the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
